About

I am Susan Landry-Whiticar, an ASCA Approved Judge and Aussie owner, exhibitor, and fancier since 1975. I was twenty-one years old and eager to explore the then “rare breed” and obtained my first Aussie through an ad in “Dog World”.Argo He was a blue merle male, from Washington State, named Cascade’s Argo (IASA registered).  He was amazingly smart and a great ambassador for the breed. I became an ASCA member in 1976.

I was fortunate to meet some folks in Florida in 1981 who were founders of the Florida Australian Shepherd Association. The registries of the International Australian Shepherd Association and ASCA were merging. There were forms, photos, and actual physical inspection of the IASA registered dogs seeking ASCA registration. I soon became involved with the Club and held the offices of President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Affiliate Representative for many years.

I met my mentor, Cindy (Kase) Ries, of Shadowfax Australian Shepherds, who generously shared her wealth of knowledge of the breed. I bought my first “show” Aussie from her, Shadowfax Tri To Be Tuff.  I then bought a second puppy, Shadowfax Black Gold, which went on to win the 1982 National Specialty from the 6-9 class! “Molly” finished her Championship quickly and during this time, I meet Pam & Al Combee,  Bearfoot Aussies. They had a lovely male named Combee’s Bearfoot Silver Magnum. We began a close partnership and breeding program. I registered my ASCA Kennel name, Golden Gait, in 1982.
Black Gold
I bred Molly to Bear which produced Ch. Golden Gait’s Southern Accent, Reserve Winner’s Bitch at the 1986 National Specialty from the BBX class. There were three more champions from that cross. I later bred Molly to Ch. Bearfoot’s Stack the Deck, a Magnum son, which produced four more Champions, giving Molly her HALL OF FAM DAM!

The best part of my journey has been the great people I have met. I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of it!
