I am Susan Landry-Whiticar born in Stuart, FL. My fisrt Aussie was obtained in 1975, when was twenty-one years young!
I became an ASCA member in 1976.
I was fortunate to meet some folks in Florida in 1981 who were founders of the Florida Australian Shepherd Association. The registries of the
International Australian Shepherd Association and ASCA were merging. There were forms, photos, and actual physical inspection of the IASA registered dogs seeking ASCA registration. I soon became
involved with the Club and held the offices of President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Affiliate Representative for many years.
I met my mentor, Cindy (Kase) Ries, of Shadowfax Australian Shepherds, who generously shared her wealth of knowledge of the breed. I bought my first “show” Aussie from her, Shadowfax Tri To Be Tuff.
I then bought a second puppy, Shadowfax Black Gold, which went on to win the 1982 National Specialty from the 6-9 class! “Molly” finished her Championship quickly and during this time, I met
Pam & Al Combee, Bearfoot Aussies. They had a lovely male named Combee’s Bearfoot Silver Magnum. We began a close partnership and breeding program. I registered my ASCA Kennel name, Golden
Gait, in 1982.
I bred Molly to Magnum (Bear) which produced Ch. Golden Gait’s Southern Accent, Reserve Winner’s Bitch at the 1986 National Specialty from the BBX class. There were three more champions from that
cross. I later bred Molly to Ch. Bearfoot’s Stack the Deck, a Magnum son, which produced four more Champions, giving Molly her HALL OF FAME DAM!
The best part of my journey has been the great people I have met. I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of it!
